Flea Market Finds & Flea Market Friends....

What an amazing time we had at the Flea Market on Sunday. Got a chance to meet the very sweet Rosemary from http://rosespetitemaison.blogspot.com/ and the jewelry goddess Jaime from http://simplymeart.blogspot.com/ and we shopped and we shopped and we shopped. The weather was lovely (a little breezy) and clear as a bell.

So very nice to meet Jennifer Grey from http://theoldpaintedcottage.blogspot.com/. She is a beautiful lady, very sweet and she had some awesome "Flea Market Treasures". Really enjoyed meeting her face-to-face and seeing some of her lovely pieces. She sold this adorable little atruim to me on our way out of the Flea Market. It will look so cute with a trio of (mini) terra cotta pots and some Springtime flowers.....

Isn't this adorable memo board sweet? It has a cute little birds nest that holds the tacs that are what else but birds eggs? Sooooo sweet, just like Jennifer. It looks so beautiful hanging in my bedroom.

Here is a closer look at the detail of the nest and eggs. So very Tweet!

Found this cute little gate for my garden.

I paid $1.00 for this gold frame. I see a dinner menu chalk board in its future. Thanks for the idea Tina!

This sweet little shelf is going to look perfect above a cute piece of furniture I just acquired from none other than my good friend Tina. She is the best!!!

A beautiful shabby chic candelabra. Love it!

All in all I would say we did pretty good. It was a beautiful day spent with my best girlfriend Tina and making new friends too.....

Time to Blog....

I most certainly have time to blog but often times have nothing creative to share so I thought I would tell you about an adorable website called http://countingyourblessings.com/. Polly has the cutest items in her shop and I had to have this one to remind me that it is "always time to blog". She has a beautiful blog too, very inspirational and informative....thanks Polly!

Bought this adorable business card holder from my good friend Cindy at http://cutepinkstuff.com/. She has an amazing site, chock full of what else but "Cute Pink Stuff". Lots of Shabby Chic items and well, just head on over there and take a look, I am sure you will find something you just gotta have!!! Check out her blog too.

Well, I am really looking forward to meeting my new friends Rosemary from http://rosespetitemaison.blogspot.com/ and Jamie the jewel from http://simplymeart.blogspot.com/. I hope the weather holds up so we can find some awesome flea market treasures.

Just want to say thank you for the comments on my wall that goes on forever. I am gonna have to rearrange some furniture and see if that helps....all really great ideas!

Blessings,

Debbie

The wall that goes on forever.....

Does anyone have a wall in their home that they just don't know what to do with? I feel like I am the only person with this problem. Some (Most) of you bloggers are amazingly talented in the interior design department and I feel like an amateur.
I am always apprehensive to try something really dramatic for fear someone will come into my home and look at "my creation/vision" and say (of course to themselves) "What was she thinking"? Well I went out on a limb and painted these tiles from Southern Living a lovely shade of white and hung them above a large mirror that is mounted above my couch. The mirror is going to be moved to a different room after I find one that reflects the cottage theme I am striving for here.....clearly this one was picked out by my husband on a trip to IKEA....our first and last!

I like the way the tiles look much better now....
I don't think you are supposed to give a high wall more height but I don't know what else to do. This is probably a job for Rhoda at http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/ She does interior design on her website and I think I need to give her a call. I know my wall would appreciate it!

A Wonderful Day....

What could be better than celebrating the Resurrection of Christ and sharing a meal with my family? We had a lovely day on Sunday and of course a delicious meal. The weather was perfect and it was the perfect opportunity to spend time as a family. Our table was decorated compliments of this adorable rabbit I found at TJ Maxx (on clearance no less) and some sweet little eggs on a cake plate. He has a little chip on his paw but I hid it nicely.

I served a ham dinner with Macaroni Salad, Deviled Eggs, Ranch Beans, and Green Beans.

We all took a nap after dinner and spent the rest of the day just lounging.....I am resting up for the Ventura Flea Market this weekend. I am looking forward to meeting Rosemary of http://rosespetitemaison.blogspot.com/ and Jamie of http://simplymeart.blogspot.com/ It is kinda exciting to meet ladies whom you only know in cyberspace. I know we will find some awesome treasures!

It was so easy......

So I had this little white frame and hung onto it thinking one day I would do something amazing with it. Well I don't know about amazing, but I did do something that I am proud to say is my own creation. Here is what I had to work with.I had read a very profound statement on someone's blog (and I apologize that I don't remember who it was) and recorded it in my book of ideas. I have a notebook of pictures, writings, ideas and inspiration, I just need to MAKE THE TIME to bring them to reality. Here is the outcome of my little project.....

I hope that I make our home a place that my children can find peace. There is so much turmoil in the world right now, they need a place to find refuge and PEACE. Such an easy little project can bring me such happiness.....

I want to thank Manuela from http://thefeatherednest.typepad.com/ for her scrumptious recipe for "Orange Marmalade Spice Cookies". Let me tell you , they were SO EASY to make and SO DELICIOUS. I added mini chocolate chips to the last batch (for my husband) and it was a lovely combination. Go and visit Manuela sometime, she has a beautiful blog and I think she is a beautiful lady!

I made a batch to take into work tomorrow. I hope the girls in the office enjoy them....

And of course a batch for my family....

Happy Spring

Spring is FINALLY here and oh how sweet it is. It is only mid-week and yet my mind is racing with ideas for "outdoor" work this weekend. I need to get the front porch cleaned, hosed down, de-cobb webbed and ready for Easter. No company coming for Easter, just me and my husband and our son & daughter but I cannot bear to leave the entry in its current condition...

How do you plan to celebrate Christ's Resurection?
We always go to church first thing in the morning and then I spend a good part of the lunch hour preparing our ham dinner complete with green beans, deviled eggs and my husbands' very favorite macaroni salad. My little guy and I are going to make cupcakes (from scratch of course) on Saturday.
We don't celebrate with Easter baksets and colored eggs, I guess that stems from my childhood and how my parents taught me the importance of the Easter holiday. For me it is about acknowledging and celebrating the greatest gift of all and that is my Salvation and Redemption in Jesus dying on the cross. I love to spend the day with my family, sharing a lovely meal and remembering the sacrifice that was made for me.....

For the love of Roses......

I just love Roses, anything and everything with Roses on it and I will find a place for it. I was wandering around TJ Maxx this weekend with my mother and came upon this beautiful accordian folder. I am going to use it for my bills. It is probably too pretty to house my ugly bills, but it makes me feel pretty!

Then I happened upon this adorable little footed tin. It will hold my bills, reminders, school notices and other assorted papers that require my attention sooner or later....I am sure to check it often as it has none other than Roses on it!

This little number holds the scissors on my desk nicely. It reminds me of Penny from http://lavenderhillstudio.blogspot.com/ when I look at it. Now that lady knows her "Mosaics"!!!

The roses in this vignette were a cast off from my friend Jennifer when she decided she didn't like Shabby Chic anymore. So glad she decided to change her style, it sure made me smile!

Now on the subject of Roses (flowers), I have found a lovely source to feed my need for all things Roses. Pop on over to http://katiesrosecottage.com/ for a look at some really beautiful items for sale. I have purchased from her a number of times and have yet to be disappointed. Here are just a few items I have bought from her online shop:

Pretty eh? I think so.

Roses & Sunshine til next time.....

Scrapbook Paper Scraps...

It's amazing what you can do with some scrapbook paper scraps. So many of the sheets of paper I have in my collection, inspire me to change the entire look of items throughout my house.
I had these storage trunks that I purchased from a mail order catalog quite sometime ago and well let me just say, they looked better in the catalog. The flowers on them just didn't suit my style but the functionality of them did.

I thought about painting them but I felt there must be something else I can do to them. Sometimes when I put a project on the back burner, I am more pleased with the outcome...

Ta Dah, I really like how they look now, much better...

I merely adhered several pieces of scrapbook paper to these trunks and viola, an entirely new piece of furniture!
This was one of my little projects that my father so lovingly helped me with over the weekend. We had such a great birthday celebration for him, my husband and my daughter. March is an expensive month for birthdays in our home!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and I look forward to the week ahead.....one blog at a time :)

Layaway is the best way....

I just love layaway. It affords me the opportunity to acquire something that I do not have the money for at the present time but don't have to go into debt in order to get.

I found this beautiful shelf at a local antique store while browsing on my lunch hour. Yes I even squeeze treasure hunting into my lunch hour. It is kinda pricey (not less than $100) so I cannot justify just buying it outright. The store owner agreed to let me put it on layaway for 6 weeks. I hope to own it in 4 weeks though......

The detail on it is beautiful and the measurements are perfect. I don't have a (proper) mantle at the present time. The fireplace in my home would have to be one of my least favorite fixtures. It has a "Southwest" vibe and really NOT my style. I think this mantle will really soften it and change the entire feel of the room.

This is what my fireplace looks like now :(

I'm considering painting the chimney a different color. I have Dunn Edwards "Quicksand" on the walls and fireplace now but with the addition of the Sage Green mantle, I'm thinking a Cream color on the chimney would accent it nicely. Any suggestions??? You know I appreciate them one and all......

So picture this mantle on my fireplace and a huge smile across my face. Thank heaven for layaway!!!

Got Time?

Sure I have time to blog, I just don't have anything creative to share so I thought I would show you a couple of vignettes around my home that make me smile.

This one is in my sunroom and I repurposed the shelf atop the bookcase. It used to hang where my new armoire now stands and since I had no other wall space, I decided to make it useful in one of my very favorite rooms in our home...
These are pictures of my side tables in the formal living room. I love the old glasses (they belonged to my grandma) displayed near the picture of me and my little guy...

I bought the book in this picture years ago at TJ Maxx and just love to display it.

This lovely little cherub sits atop my piano and always makes me smile. He was a great bargain from Marshalls.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my world.

I would like to say thank you to Manuela from http://thefeatherednest.typepad.com/ for her wonderful recipe for "Sock it to me Cake". I made it for my parents who are coming from Northern Calfornia tomorrow for a visit. Manuela has a beautiful blog and although we have never met face-to-face, I am convinced she is a beautiful person...

Cool find(s) at Marshall's

After work on Friday I decided to pop into Marshall's on my way home and see what little something I could find to make me smile. I never seem to be disappointed because I'm sure you all can agree, there is most certainly ALWAYS something at Marshall's you just gotta have.

I ran across these neat books. I love to scrapbook (even though I have neglected my photos for some time now) and I found this beautiful book by Kay Stanley with a gorgeous green cover. Sometimes I buy books just because I know they will look lovely in my home and for $3.99, one cannot go wrong...

Isn' this just gorgeous? The inside is beautiful too and so many creative ideas, I am inspired to break out my photos and start scrappin again....

The other book is entitled "Keeping House" and it is more like a "how to keep your house clean and organized" binder of sorts. It has tabbed pages and is chocked full of little hints and ideas to make housekeeping and house cleaning effortless. I'm all for ways to streamline those necessities so I have more time to create, decorate and blog; not necessarily in that order.
Put my back out over the weekend so I am home today on an ice pack. My new books are keeping me company while I heal....
Blogger Blessings,

Debbie Kay
