Should I or Shouldn't I ?????

I want to turn this beautiful tray into a chalkboard message board but I don't know if I should. I ran it by the girls at work and got a 2 to 1 vote in favor of painting it and hanging it from a lovely ribbon.

One co-worker said to adhere some wood of sorts to it first, paint the wood (with the chalkboard paint) and then at least if I change my mind in the future, the tray is not ruined. I spent $12.00 for it at a little antique shop near where I work.

For those of you who have made one, please let me know how it turned out and convince me either way to do something fabulous with this amazing tray....thank you.

Got this adorable little lamp at the same place. It is my favorite cottage green but with the gingham action going on here. I love it on my little secretary that I sit at to write letters to friends. It is so fun to go Thrifting and find items at 50% off!

I purchased several lovely things from Katie's Rose Cottage that I will share with you over the weekend. She has beautiful things for sale on her website. I am in shabby chic heaven!

Blogger Blessings and I look forward to your input on my message board project.

Got a thing for Cookbooks

I just love to display cookbooks in my kitchen. I don't use them everyday as I make the usual "family meals" during the week but there is just something about a cookbook displayed on a granite countertop, on a lovely stand that makes me smile.....

This very famous cookbook comes in handy when I need to reference special measurements. It has a complete chart in the back of the book for conversion. I enjoy making some of the same recipes my mom made from this cookbook.

A friend of mine gave this cookbook to me for Christmas one year. It has festive holiday recipes and I love cooking for the holidays.

This is what me and my little guy will be doing this weekend. I love to bake (he thinks I'm a professional baker) so we are going to make sugar cookies for his class.

Blogger Blessings to all of my new friends and thank your for visiting,

Debbie Kay

Birdhouses & Springtime.....

With Easter just around the corner, I can't help but feel in the mood for Spring decorating. I found this little birdhouse at a yard sale (sorry I don't have a "before" picture) but I saw the potential. A can of white spray paint (a staple in my house :) and the little nest from Michaels, and I have this adorable home for him. I put an angel on his cage to watch over him.

I have a lot of "bird" accessories in my sunroom.

I hope to attract a lot of hummingbirds this summer when I revamp my back patio. My son loves to see them feed at the colorful feeder filled with sweet nectar.

Smith & Hawken has lovely hummingbird feeders in the garden section at Target. Many beautiful colors and only $9.99, very reasonable.

I would like to thank all of my very sweet and thoughtful visitors who have left comments. You truly make my day with your sentiments.
Thank you new Blog Friends. I hope we can get to know each other better......

What?....Plates in a Powder Room?

Of course, I told my husband, what else would I do with such pretty plates? He just shook his head as he reluctantly hung them in of all places, a bathrooom....my special Powder Room, just off the kitchen. No guest has ever visited without complimenting my little green Powder Room.

I spent so much time putting my stamp on this room. When we bought our house, the previous homeowners didn't do much "interior work". They owned a Chestnut Plantation and a Nursery so the landscaping was beautiful (still is) but the inside needed lots of help. "Rescue me from the 1980's" is all I could hear it screaming. Sponge painting I hear was the rave back then. I think Shabby Chic in 2008 suits it well.

This little cabinet has been multi-purposed in my home for years. When we finished the bathroom, I thought it was the perfect size to house reading material & bath tissue and all the things you want out of sight in your Powder Room. I had some fabric I got on sale at Walmart that was the perfect compliment to the green on the walls. Roses & Green, two of my favorite things!

These adorable Cherubs greet you on the wall above the guest towels. A friend of mine gave them to me a few years ago. Again the "her trash, my treasure concept" brings such a sweet blessing my way.

I will leave you with this adorable mini rose bush that sets in my Powder Room. I got it the day after Valentines Day at Lowe's for $2.00. A beautiful bathroom should not only look lovely but smell fragrant. Nothing beats fresh flowers......

One (wo)mans trash but oh what a Treasure.....

So my friend Tina asks me if I want to look through some of her "stuff for the Goodwill" before she bags it up and knowing her decorating style, I'm thinkin Oh yeah! She bought this flower arrangement mail order a couple of years ago and just decided she doesn't like "fake flower arrangements". Well, I love them and they go perfectly in my dining room.

If these faux bulbs don't welcome Spring, I don't know what does. She said they were an impulse buy at Home Goods. How impulsive of her and how lucky for me.....

Now I don't know how to describe this or why I even took it but it is clearly "homemade" and she threatened to just throw it away if I did not take it. I cannot bear to just discard something that has potential so I hung it in my slider window sort of in between the opening in my curtains. It resembles a wedding boquet gone bad in its present state but I think I may be able to disassemble some of the silk flowers and repurpose them.....any suggestions?

I cannot wait to show you the pictures of the Armoire she is just giving to me (I pick it up this weekend). She said if I buy her lunch at the Ventura County Flea Market in March, the armoire is mine!!! What a wonderful friend I have. Thanks Tina!

Blessings,
Debbie

Just waitin' for Spring.....

I just love Rabbits. This adorable find at TJ Maxx adds a welcome element at my front porch. Welcome to my home and Welcome Spring!

I love flowers, and I love Spring. Now I would just love for Spring to come so that I can sit outside and enjoy my flowers.

This little guy is patiently awaiting Spring and I think he knows it is not coming soon enough. I added some lovely flowers to his container to help the weather along.
Enjoy the weather wherever you are
Blessings,

Debbie

I have a million ideas for my patio that involves lots of potted plants, lounging with a glass of lemonade and just enjoying my blessings. Have a marvelous weekend.
Blessings to you,

Coffee....a girl's best friend

Don't you just love coffee. It is my favorite time of the day, and I am NOT a morning person. When my feet hit the floor, I cannot wait to take that first sip. Ahhhhh, now I am ok, let's take care of business.
